Rainbow Community of Canada

Communauté arc-en-ciel du Canada

NOMINATE SAFE SPACE

Becoming a Canadian citizen is a meaningful milestone, and no one should have to experience their Citizenship Ceremony without someone there to share in the moment.

If you are a Permanent Resident preparing to become a Canadian citizen and you do not have friends or family available to attend your ceremony or support you, you may wish to invite members of the Rainbow Community of Canada to be present and celebrate this important occasion with you.

We believe that citizenship is a moment of belonging, and our community is proud to stand alongside newcomers as they take this significant step in their Canadian journey.

You may have arrived in Canada alone, but you don't have to celebrate becoming Canadian alone.

Statement on Community Representation at Immigration and Admissibility Hearings

The Rainbow Community of Canada is committed to supporting immigrants and vulnerable individuals navigating Canada’s immigration and admissibility processes.

In accordance with Canadian immigration and tribunal regulations, members and designated representatives of the Rainbow Community of Canada may, in a limited capacity, act as Counsel or Representatives at Immigration and Admissibility Hearings on an unpaid, volunteer basis, provided that no fees or compensation are charged for representation.

In this voluntary capacity, representatives provide community-based advocacy, guidance, and support to individuals navigating these processes. Individuals are encouraged to confirm representation requirements and eligibility with the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (IRB) or the relevant tribunal to ensure compliance with all applicable rules and regulations.

Welcome to the Rainbow Community of Canada

The Rainbow Community of Canada (RCC) is a federally incorporated national organization dedicated to supporting, recognizing, and empowering 2SLGBTQIA+ people, as well as businesses, institutions, and organizations that demonstrate meaningful allyship and commitment to inclusion across Canada.

Our mission is to foster safer, more welcoming, and more inclusive communities by celebrating diversity, promoting equality, advancing human rights, and strengthening allyship from coast to coast.

The Rainbow Community of Canada provides a range of advocacy and community support services, including referral letters, letters of recommendation, letters of good standing, and letters of welcome for individuals who have been forcibly displaced or otherwise impacted because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. Through our work, we strive to help individuals integrate, navigate new communities with dignity, respect, and a greater sense of belonging.

Safe Space Certification and Recognition

As part of our commitment to building inclusive communities, the Rainbow Community of Canada proudly recognizes and certifies schools, universities, churches, businesses, service providers, and community organizations that demonstrate meaningful support for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.

Our Safe Space Certification Program helps identify and celebrate organizations that are committed to creating welcoming environments grounded in the principles of respect, dignity, equality, inclusion, and human rights. Through recognition and education, we encourage organizations to strengthen their practices and demonstrate visible support for 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals and families.

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Human Rights Education

The Rainbow Community of Canada provides professional 2SLGBTQIA+ Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Human Rights, and Sensitivity Training Workshops designed to help businesses, employers, service providers, educational institutions, and organizations better understand inclusion and their responsibilities under applicable Canadian human rights legislation.

Our educational programming promotes respectful workplaces and service environments while helping organizations develop stronger cultures of inclusion, belonging, dignity, and respect.

Commendations and Proclamations

Beyond organizational recognition and education, the Rainbow Community of Canada issues Commendations and Proclamations to honour outstanding individuals who make a positive contribution to their communities.

Through a nomination process, community members can recognize leaders, advocates, allies, volunteers, trailblazers, and everyday champions whose actions inspire meaningful change, advance equality, and foster greater inclusion.

These recognitions provide an opportunity to celebrate the contributions of individuals who help make Canada a more welcoming and inclusive nation.

Advocacy and Community Support

The Rainbow Community of Canada also engages in 2SLGBTQIA+ advocacy, newcomer and integration support, refugee assistance, community-building initiatives, educational programming, and collaborative partnerships.

Our goal is to help individuals and communities feel welcomed, protected, respected, valued, and empowered. By creating opportunities for connection and collaboration, we work to strengthen social inclusion and encourage communities across Canada to stand together in support of equality and human dignity.

The Meaning of "Rainbow Community"

The phrase "Rainbow Community" offers a simple, welcoming, and inclusive way to refer to the broader 2SLGBTQIA+ community. It reflects the diversity of identities, experiences, and backgrounds that make up our communities while symbolizing resilience, unity, hope, and pride.

At the Rainbow Community of Canada, we believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to live with pride, dignity, safety, equality, and a true sense of belonging.
